2009-2010 PTA Committees

Volunteers lead classroom discussions about artists and their artwork for first through fourth grades. There are between four and eight, 30 minute sessions throughout the year. No previous experience is needed and training sessions are provided.
Artsonia
Annual fall fundraising event featuring a creation by your child. Parents may purchase customized art keepsakes on-line from Artsonia featuring their child's artwork.
Book Fairs:
Barnes and Noble (Galleria), November 14, 2009
One shopping day 9:00 AM - 10:00 PM. Volunteers scheduled to be at the wish list table throughout the day.
Scholastic Bookfair February
Volunteers for the annual Scholastic Bookfair help with set up, sales during the school day, in the evening, and pack-up. In addition, volunteers set-up / clean-up and serve ice cream in the cafeteria at this annual event. Volunteer time is scheduled in one to two hour shifts.
Box Tops
This committee promotes
Box Tops for Education by collecting returned Box Tops and redeems them at General Mills twice a year for a cash contribution to Creek Valley. This is an ongoing program during the school year. Chairs contribute approximately three hours of their time per month.
Bravo
Volunteers lead classroom discussions about musicians, instruments, and music for half-day Kindergarten. There are 6 or 7 lessons per year that must be prepared for and presented. No previous experience is necessary and training sessions are provided.
Carnival
The Carnival Chair(s) oversee a committee that spearheads Creek Valley's largest, annual fundraiser each spring. Committee members are assigned and coordinate the raffle, games, baskets, decorations, prizes, food, and set-up/clean-up. Planning begins in November. Volunteers are needed to run the evening event.
Community Service
In conjunction with the fifth Grade Student Service Council, this committee coordinates special projects including the Hat and Mitten Tree (November) and Food Drive (March).
Directory/ Handbook
Volunteers are responsible for the layout, advertising, printing, distribution and content of the Creek Valley directory. This requires knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, including Mail Merge, and takes approximately 30 hours of time between August and October.
Fifth Grade Book Club
Sponsored by Global Citizen Fund (GCF) this
club consists of fifth graders who read and talk about books based on a topic or an agreed-upon reading list. The club meets over lunch break on a regular basis and at a set location at Creek Valley.
Fifth Grade Promotion and Middle School Transition Program
This committee plans and coordinates both the fifth grade preparing for Middle School Program (May) and Promotion Ceremony (June).
Gardening / Grounds Beautification
This committee spearheads grounds upkeep and beautification. Tasks include helping with the fall and spring cleanup. Volunteers do not need green thumbs and time commitment is flexible.
Geography Bee
Volunteers help prepare fourth and fifth grade students for local, state and national geography bee competitions. Volunteer time commitment is a total of 3-8 hours from September through December.
Grant Writing and Donations
This committee assists teachers and staff in writing grants to fund activities and projects at Creek Valley. In addition this committee seeks donations from local businesses.
Green Committee
This committee investigates and organizes environmentally friendly programs for Creek Valley. Volunteers monitor the lunchroom composting program and encourage student and classroom solutions for composting, recycling, and waste reduction. There are three district meetings per year.
Hospitality
Volunteers help with set-up, serving, and clean-up of two appreciation luncheons and one appreciation dinner on behalf of the Creek Valley PTA to staff. Meals are typically catered.
Imagination Fair (2010). This PTA activity is held every other year, alternating with Math Night.
The Imagination Fair is a totally fun and totally wacky event where the students are the stars. Students can use their noggins to create the coolest projects.
Innsibrook:
Gift Wrap
This fundraising committee is responsible for communicating information about Gift Wrap Sales to Creek Valley families. Volunteers are needed to compile and sort orders in late September and help distribute orders to families one day after school in November.
School Supplies
This committee coordinates the sale of school supply packets at the end of the school year and distributes these packets to classrooms prior to the August Open House.
Junior Great Books-Third and Fourth Grade
This is an extra-curricular reading program for students. Volunteers, using the Junior Great Book series, lead twelve discussion groups throughout the year. Discussion meetings can be held either before school or during recess.
Kemps Caps
This committee publicizes Creek Valley's
Kemps Caps program, encourages families to donate their Kemps Caps to Creek Valley, and redeems the caps for a cash contribution to Creek Valley. This is an ongoing program during the school year.
Math Night (to be held 2011). This PTA activity is held every other year, alternating with Imagination Fair.
Math night volunteers
conduct an all-school evening of fun math games.
Media Center
Volunteers assist the media center staff with checking out books, helping students, and re-shelving books. Volunteers work in one-hour shifts per week or as needed. Training is provided.
New Families
This committee coordinates the new families mentor program and helps welcome new families to Creek Valley through various events throughout the school year.
Nuts and Bolts
This committee assists both staff and PTA standing committees with "at-home" projects throughout the year. Volunteers are contacted on an as needed basis. Delivery of raw materials and pick-up of finished projects can be arranged.
Paws for News (PFN)
Co-editors publish and edit the Creek Valley newsletter,
Paws for News. PFN is produced every other week from August - June and requires a time commitment of approximately 2-3 hours per publication.
Picture Day
Volunteers assist with school picture day (October) and re-take picture day (November).
Pride Day
The Pride Day team (staff and parents) coordinates the monthly Pride Day assemblies once a month.
PTA Website Webmaster
Create, update, and improve the PTA website: creekvalleypta.org
Coordinate volunteer orientation and training in September, and oversees online volunteer registration.
Room Parent Coordinator
The coordinator distributes and collects room parent sign up sheets, compiles a master list to distribute to appropriate PTA committees, maintains an activities suggestion list throughout the year, and leads a Room Parent Orientation meeting in September.
School Store
Our school store is open during New Families Night and Open House prior to school starting and also one Friday per month during the lunch hour. Items for sale include school related items and clothing.
Volunteers help set-up, sell, and clean-up the store. Time commitment is flexible.
Scrip Cards
Scrip cards are gift cards that are purchased from retailers with a percentage going back to Creek Valley PTA. Volunteers help to publicize, organize, and distribute orders two-three times per year.
Security
Volunteers help with security at Creek Valley on high traffic days such as election days and school party days. Individuals are placed at entrances to assist with traffic and enforce school sign-in procedures. Volunteers are scheduled as needed and as their schedules permit.
Vision and Hearing
In coordination with the health associate, volunteers organize vision and hearing screening in November for all students.
Yearbook
This committee creates, compiles, and produces Creek Valley's yearbook. Volunteer time is flexible and volunteers are needed throughout the year with a concentrated effort from November - January.
PTA Adjunct Committees:
Food and Nutrition
The Food and Nutrition liaison is responsible for disseminating district information to Creek Valley regarding food and nutrition. The liaison attends several monthly district meetings on the topic. Meetings are one to two hours in length.
Global Citizen Fund (GCF)
The GCF sponsors one or more international programs throughout the year, such as the International Festival. When appropriate, GCF works with Student Service Council to plan initiatives such as Pennies for Peace and sponsors the fifth grade book club.
Legislative Liaison
This committee helps Creek Valley maintain awareness of legislation affecting our schools and communicates Creek Valley needs and concerns to the district and general community. Volunteers attend three to four legislative community events per year.
Parent Communication Network (PCN)
The PCN liaisons attend monthly meetings, distribute PCN marketing materials to the school, and are a communication link between the school and the PCN organization. Liaisons contribute two-four hours per month from September through June.
